Low Carbon Farming – How to turn aspiration into reality

An introductory talk by Becky Willson (Farm Carbon Toolkit)
This introductory talk highlights some of the key issues around agriculture and climate change and sets out the principles behind measuring carbon on your farm.

Introduction to the farm carbon calculator, with Becky Willson.

How to complete your farm carbon calculator, and what it means for your business.

Using data from a local Herefordshire farm as an example, we are looking at how to enter the data on to the toolkit, and more importantly, how to interpret the results in a way which highlights how you can reduce emissions and improve sequestration.

We also look at how you can model changes in management practices using the calculator.

Using results from your Farm Carbon Calculator to reduce your farm’s carbon footprint.

Having completed your carbon audit using the Farm Carbon Calculator, the big question is what does it mean?

Becky Willson (from the Farm Carbon Toolkit) helps you to understand and interpret your carbon footprint to develop some practical action that can be achieved on the farm.

  • using real farm examples to explore key areas of greenhouse gas emissions and strategies that can be undertaken to reduce them.
  • exploring how the calculator can be used to scenario plan these future strategies and inform your carbon reduction plan.
  • looking at the next steps and how carbon footprinting can become a key part of your farm management.
